Community Peace Project

Glencree Centre

I designed and facilitated this programme as part of the Northern Ireland peace process. Participants came from 17 communities that were violently opposed to one another. The wilds of the Scottish Highlands offered neutral ground, unfamiliar to everyone - with a shared focus on ecological trauma and a mutual love of the outdoors. That created new conditions for relationship, and the conversation turned, naturally, to peace: something that would otherwise have been unthinkable.

Each participant nominated the next participant, from their own community or organisation. That's still happening today.
